While there is no denying the fact that upliftment of the oppressed was the need of the hour in the history, the scenario has been changed a lot in the contemporary society.
Moreover, the tokenistic growth and development of the oppressed class in the name of reservation further proves that nothing has been significantly changed for them as well. The poorest of the poor are still not able to access even the primary education let alone securing the higher education and an adept job. Hence, offering reservations after the completion of secondary education or even for jobs is a highly problematic concept in itself.
Further, what makes the reservation system a cause of grave social injustice is its current form of implementation, while the affluent section from the backward classes enjoys reservation, the economically weaker section from general class had to struggle to even earn a meagre cost of living. Hence, if at all, there is a need for reservation, it should be provided on the economic basis.
Ironically, the reservation system which was started to remedy the injustice done to the marginalized class of society is now victimizing thousands of young men and women.
