Well, without a doubt, reservation system in jobs is detrimental to the social equilibrium. If at all, the country is need of reservation system, it should be provided at the entry level of the education system to give everyone a fair chance of education. Providing reservation for procuring secured government jobs after graduation/post-graduation is making them handicapped all over again. Jobs should only be provided according to the skill set of the candidate. Reservation often allows less meritorious to enter into the system thereby affecting the productivity of the system both quantitatively and qualitatively.
However, I also believe that the current form of reservation is problematic. The entire system should be reformulated and redesigned so that the one who needs it gets an optimum benefit at the requisite system.
Reservation, in its current form, is getting misused. Hence, there’s a strong displeasure about it in the public. Had it been the case where reservation system was rightly used to benefit the ones who actually need it, there would have been no second thought about it being useful for a progressive society. But, reservation, in the current format is limited to being a political tool for securing votes and hence, it is causing an imbalance in the output of the country.
